PROJECT LABOR AGREEMENT HOLIDAY SUMMARY

The General Counsel for the Building and Construction Trades Council has put together a list explaining the holidays of Christmas and New Years Eve for PLA projects:

CHRISTMAS DAY OBSERVED SATURDAY DECEMBER 25TH

  • All PLAs that include language that the Holidays will be observed on the date designated by New York State will observe the Holiday on Saturday December 25th, including:
    • SCA PLA
    • United Nations PLA
    • Astoria Powerhouse PLA
    • Aqueduct Racetrack PLA
    • CUNY Science Center PLA
    • Fordham University PLA

CHRISTMAS DAY OBSERVED FRIDAY DECEMBER 24TH;

  • All PLAs that say that the Holiday will be observed on the calendar date, except those that occur on Saturday will be observed on the previous Friday will observe the Christmas Day on the 24th, including;
    • NYC Agency PLAs {other than SCA PLA}
    • Bronx Psychiatric Center PLA
    • Schermerhorn (DOL Office Building) PLA
    • CUNY Brooklyn College Performing Arts Center PLA

BTEA TO OPERATE NEW YORK FIRE SAFETY ACADEMY

The The New York Fire Safety Academy (NYFSA) has become a part of the BTEA effective January 1, 2011.

The NYFSA was established in 2009 with the goal of educating construction site personnel on fire prevention and safety techniques for construction jobsites.  The NYFSA is administered by Executive Director Carol Karlin.  In addition to its training activities, the NYFSA also commissions research projects and engages in the development and implementation of fire safety initiatives.  The NYFSA also works with the New York City Fire Department in identifying the best practices for jobsite fire prevention and safety techniques.
