BTEA TAKES ACTIVE ROLE IN NEW YORK CITY BUILDING CODE AND FIRE CODE REVIEW

The BTEA has assumed an active role as the New York City Department of Buildings has begun its review aimed at amending and updating the New York City Building Code.  BTEA President Louis Coletti and Senior Vice President Henry Kita have been named to the Managing Committee charged by the Buildings Department with overseeing the review of the Building Code.  In addition, Mr. Kita is serving as the Chairman of the Construction and Demolition Committee for the Code Review.  It is anticipated that the Code Review process will not be completed until the summer of 2012.

The BTEA is also actively involved in a review of the New York City Fire Code currently being undertaken by the New York City Fire Department.  Carol Karlin, Executive Director of the New York City Fire Safety Academy is coordinating the BTEA’s review efforts in consultation with volunteer members of the BTEA Safety Committee.
