NYC DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS ISSUES REMINDER ON NEW CONSTRUCTION SITE SIGNAGE REQUIREMENTS

The office of New York City Department of Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri has issued a notice reminding construction contractors that site signage requirements newly enacted by the City Council and affirmed by the Mayor are in effect as of July 1, 2013. 

According to DOB, project sites with construction fences or sidewalk shed permitted on or after July 1, 2013, must meet the new signage requirements that focus on the type of work underway and highlights the project’s contact information.

DRAFT FIRE CODE UNDER REVIEW

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) hosted a public forum on proposed amendments to the New York City Fire Code on August 14.  The New York Fire Safety Academy, as part of the FDNY Code Advisory Committee previously submitted recommendations for code changes based on BTEA member input.  Several of these recommendations have been included in the final draft document.

FDNY has made this draft available for public comment.  A draft of the proposed Fire Code can be viewed on the FDNY website at www.nyc.gov/html/fdny .

Completion of the 2013 Fire Code revision process is scheduled in September in order for legislation to be introduced for City Council consideration.

 

BTEA SENIOR ADVISOR TO BECOME EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SUBCONTRACTORS TRADE ASSOCIATION

BTEA President Louis Coletti recently announced the resignation of BTEA Senior Vice President Hank Kita, effective October 1, 2013. 

Kita is leaving the BTEA to assume the position of Executive Director of the Subcontractors Trade Association, replacing that organization’s long time chief executive, Ron Berger, who is retiring.

 Coletti praised Kita’s 15 years of service to the BTEA saying, “He (Kita) has served the industry, the BTEA and its President in the highest of professional standards and contributed significantly to the success of the BTEA and the union construction industry.”
