BTEA TO PARTICIPATE IN PROCUREMENT REFORM COMMITTEE
NYC Comptroller –Elect Scott Stringer has asked the BTEA to participate in a working Committee on Procurement Reform.
The working group is tasked with developing recommendations for the Comptroller’s Office on how to improve city procurement and procedures.
There are 6 members serving in the group, with the BTEA, represented by CEO Louis J. Coletti, being the only construction related representative on the Committee.
BTEA TO ATTEND CITY COUNCIL RETREAT DECEMBER 7-8
The BTEA has been asked to participate in a weekend retreat for the 25 newly elected City Council members on December 7-8 at Baruch College.
The BTEA will make a presentation to the newly elected Council Members about the structure and importance of the city’s union construction industry as well as serve on a panel discussing issues facing small and minority & women owned businesses.
Get New York Building Scaffold Reform Campaign Kick Off
Fundraising for ‘Get New York Building’, the campaign to reform Scaffold Law 240/241, has experienced a great start and the campaign is well positioned to run a targeted advertising campaign once the New York legislative session begins in January 2014.
In addition, the campaign’s Co-Chairs, Reverend De Graff and Louis J. Coletti, and BTEA member Edwin Lopez of NECA have had several positive meetings with NY State elected officials and M/WBE community members and will continue to do so through the start of the 2014 legislative season.
We anticipate a press conference and formal campaign start on December 17th on the steps of City Hall and will provide further updates as the date nears.
CM/GC – SUBCONTRACTOR ROUNDABLE MEETS DECEMBER 16
On December 16th the CM/GC – Subcontractor Roundtable will convene their second meeting to discuss methods of improving the business relationship between the two groups. This is the 2nd of an ongoing series of meetings planned. The Roundtable anticipates meeting regularly to strengthen and improve the CM/GC – Subcontractor relationship.
BOARD OF GOVERNORS ADOPTS 2014-2017 STRATEGIC PLAN
The Board of Governors has adopted the 2014-2017 Strategic Plan. The plan calls for building a strong working relationship with the incoming Mayor and key city administrative officials and increasing broader communications efforts to ensure the BTEA membership’s interests are heard and the importance of union construction in New York City is made clear.
